GENERAL INFORMATION

Dear Parents,  

            I would like to tell you about our GilSports June Day Camp Program. Our two week full day sports camp is a unique experience that your child will love. Over the course of the two weeks, the day to day structure of the program stays the same. Children are divided up into groups, depending on their grade and age. Each group has 10 to 14 children and 3 counselors to lead the daily activities. The staff is comprised entirely of counselors with at least 3 years experience at Gilsports For Kids. We will spend the morning, through lunchtime, at the Dyker Beach Park fields in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. There we have access to baseball fields, basketball courts, and handball courts for the children to play on. There is also an expansive and lush grass field that we use for everything from soccer, and capture the flag, to frisbee golf. For lunch, we sit under a cluster of large, beautiful trees that provide the children ample shade, and allows them to relax after being out in the hot summer sun. Following lunch, we allow the children to decide which activity they would like to play, as long as the group comes to a consensus. We feel strongly about ensuring that the children are engaged in activities they enjoy, and are part of the decision making process for their after lunch activity.

        After our final sports activity for the day, we drive 15 minutes to the Paerdegat Swim Club for swimming. We use a large pool that has numerous great features. Most important is your child’s safety, and the club gives us two fully certified lifeguards to watch the pool, in addition to the GilSports staff. In terms of the pool’s features, there is both a shallow and deep end, so all levels of swimmers will have an enjoyable swim. The pool also offers two slides, that are probably one of most popular features at the pool. The children absolutely love the slide.  

            Some important items to remember when sending your child to June Camp. You MUST send your child with lunch, a snack, and a drink in an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack. We strongly encourage them to bring a water bottle that they can keep with them at their sports activties.  One of our daily treats occurrs at the pool, when we give the children an ice cream snack. Please make sure to send food and drinks to get them through the long, hot day. I encourage all parents to put sunblock on their children before they leave for camp in the morning. During the day all the counselors will apply sunblock to the children, especially before swimming in the afternoon.

Like every program at GilSports, door to door transportation is included. The cost for June Day Camp is $100.00 per day, and you can sign up for any combination of days during the 2 weeks of June Camp.
